Digital Foundations
Creating a beautiful digital image demands both strong computer and photographic skills. In the Edge Workshop you learn how to effectively select, use, manage, and troubleshoot the computer hardware and software that digital photography requires. Learn to work fast, be organized, and avoid pitfalls. The workshop introduces the student to professional standards in digital file management, including the use of computer programs, portable drives, and photographic software.
Introduction to Digital Capture
This section is an introduction to digital imaging technology and its applications. Topics range from "what are pixels?", to best exposure techniques and how photographers apply them. Students learn the differences between point and shoot and DSLR systems through hands-on experience with each format. We also include JPEG and RAW file shooting options, neutral balance techniques, and exposure for digital systems.
Retouching
Basic and advanced retouching techniques are skills that every photographer needs. Removing imperfections, enhancing color and replacing or removing objects helps to elevate a photographer's vision. We teach you our secret approach to beautiful digital images
Location Shooting
Constructing a great photograph takes skill, talent, and knowledge. The Edge workshop is an introduction to composition, photographic vision, color theory, and you shoot every day. Some workshop events include students working with professional models. Lectures, discussions, visual presentations, and in-class exercises are used as teaching methods to enhance and stimulate the student's creative process. Students create a portfolio book, and workshop assignments emphasize the key elements of design: light, line, focal point, viewpoint, shape, texture, color, mood, and rhythm. Learn to shoot with our hands on training.
Location Lighting
Creating natural-looking light in a wide variety of locations and settings is what will set you apart from other photographers. Balancing ambient light, reflectors and portable strobes are covered in depth. Instructors demonstrate the technical aspects of controlling light to produce an memorable image and cover topics such as quality of light, soft vs. hard light, and the effect of light size in relation to the subject.
Posing
Posing subjects well and making them feel comfortable is a powerful psychological tool for a photographer. It is the photographer's job to create poses and expressions that invoke the subjects features. In the Edge Workshop, students learn how to direct models and work with individual people, couples, and groups to enhance the look and feel of the photographs they are creating.
